Tir Iran was founded on January 3, 2002 and commenced operations exactly one year later. Turan Tir, the well-respected airline executive was the Founder of the airline and his father, Maxwell Tir, was the CFO.

History Edit

On the morning of January 3, 2002, Turan Tir met with his father for breakfast and discussed the foundation of an airline. Mr. Maxwell Tir and his son discussed, before coming to the conclusion that Iran needed a 5-star airline. This is the day Tir Iran was launched. One year later, Turan & Maxwell Tir stood outside of The Tir Iran Building (Now called - The Iran Air Building) and announced the first flight of the airline would be from Tehran to Islamabad operated by a Tupolev jet. The press was invited aboard for the flight.

EuroAtlantic Airways operated a Boeing 767-300ER on behalf of Tir Iran from January 4, 2003-January 4, 2004.

Tir Iran Express Edit

Tir Iran Express operated 4 Tupolev TU-134. Tir Iran Express operated from January 3, 2004 to November 18, 2006. After Tir Iran Express closed, all 4 of the airline's TU-134s were sold.

Incidents and Accidents Edit

On September 7, 2004, a Tir Iran Express Tupolev TU-134 collided with a Tir Iran Tupolev TU-154 on the ground at Islamabad. 17 people were injured, 1 on the Tir Iran Express flight and 16 on the Tir Iran flight. The Tir Iran TU-154 had almost finished deplaning, there were 18 people aboard.

On December 1, 2005, a Tir Iran TU-154 engine caught fire, the aircraft made an emergency landing with no injuries.

On December 12, 2005, a Tir Iran Express TU-134 landed in a field after a bird strike. There were 64 people aboard, and 47 were injured (23 seriously).

On July 18, 2006, a Tir Iran Tupolev TU-134 went off the runway at Tehran. There was 1 minor injury.
